Music City Exchange
Code of Conduct

MCX and Swing Dance Nashville is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion (or lack thereof). Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of workshops or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated at any event venue, including dances, workshops, competitions, Twitter, Facebook, and other online media.

We hope that MCX will provide a chance for you to engage in social situations and learn new skills, pushing you outside of your artistic comfort zone. No other behaviors, speech, or actions that make our patrons feel uncomfortable, threatened, or harassed will be tolerated.

Basic principals:

  • Practice active and enthusiastic consent: Want to dance with someone? Use your words and ask them. Do not initiate physical touch without a person’s express permission.

  • Related, everyone should be in control of their own body: Respect people’s right to say no to a dance. Leads, don’t lead any moves during which the follow is not supporting their own weight. Follows, be an active part of your dance and watch where your partnership is going. And for goodness sake, no aerials on the social dance floor.

  • Don’t offer unsolicited advice on the dance floor: Unless someone explicitly asks for it, they don’t want it.

  • Absolutely no illegal substances of any kind.

We reserve the right to take any action we deem necessary to deal with harassment. This includes verbal warnings, asking people to leave the event immediately without refund, banning individual(s) from the event, and contacting law enforcement officials. By signing up for MCX you agree to follow these guidelines outlined within the Code of Conduct.
